Lamar T. Sam Burdette
November 11, 1924 - May 25, 2008
ELLABELL – Lamar T. Sam Burdette, age 83, died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. The Toombs County native lived most of his life in Savannah before moving to Ellabell in 1988.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II, retired from Union Camp after thirty-four years of service, and later retired from SunTrust Bank.
He was a member of the American Legion, Post 184 where he served as Commander of the post in 1975. He was one of the first members of the Color Guard where he served for many years carrying the American flag. He was a Past President of the Printer's Union, Local 604 and Past Commodore of the Lazaretto Boat Club. After moving to Ellabell, Sam also volunteered as a fire fighter for several years.
Mr. Burdette enjoyed life to the fullest, especially watching his grandchildren play ball and his granddaughter dance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Daisy Burdette of Toombs County, two brothers, James and George Burdette of Savannah, and a sister, Ila Mae Durden of Warner Robbins.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Priscilla Beasley Burdette; of Ellabell, a daughter, Samantha Pruitt; of Ellabell, a son, Lamar T. Burdette, II and daughter-in-law, Tracey Burdette; of Savannah, a grandson, Justin Pruitt; of Ellabell, a granddaughter, Victoria Pruitt; of Ellabell, and two step-grandchildren, Dustin Hutchinson and Alexis Stone; of Baxley, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
