Savannah - Ann lost her courageous battle with cancer on Sunday morning, September 7, 2008, appropriately on "Grandparents Day". She died peacefully under the wonderful care of Hospice Savannah.
Ann was born on September 2, 1937 in Savannah, GA to the late Frank P. Mincey Sr. and Elizabeth Cone Mincey. She attended Savannah Public schools and graduated from Commercial High School in 1955. She married William Calvert Sires, Sr. in February of 1956. Ann and William celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in February. Ann worked after her children were all in school, but her best job and greatest joy was her five children, and later her eleven grandchildren.
Ann is survived by William, her loving husband of 52 years, her daughters Tracey Lyon Bob of Baltimore, MD., Amy E. Karlewicz, Ann Ryan Mosely, and Sarah E. Sires Mary Blair Ray, and son William C. Sires Jr.Jeri, all of Savannah, her grandchildren LCpl. Joseph E. Lyon USMC and Emily A. Lyon of Baltimore, MD., McCaulley E. Coursey, McKenzie M. Karlewicz, A. Joseph Ryan V, W. Jordan Ryan, Noah B. Mosely, Ashley A. Mosely, Cristina R. Sires, William C. Sires III, and Maxwell R. Sires, all of Savannah. She is also survived by a brother, Frank P. Mincey Jr. Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks at 4605 Hwy 80 East.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks, led by the Reverend William Hester of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow immediately at Hillcrest Cemetery on Wheaton Street. Pallbearers will be Trey Mincey, Eddie Lambros, Tony Coursey, Seth Goodman, Phillip Carter, and Joe Lipski.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to Hospice Savannah, at P.O. Box 13190 Savannah, GA 31416; or the American Cancer Society at 5102 Paulsen St., Savannah, GA 31405.
