Katharine Miller Calhoun Saffold

SAVANNAH - Katharine Miller Calhoun Saffold, 93, daughter of the late Patrick Noble Calhoun and Katharine Miller Calhoun died on Tuesday, October 28, 2008.

She was born in Macon, Georgia on April 21, 1915 and moved to Columbus, Georgia before coming to Savannah. She was a member of the first graduating class of Pape School later Savannah Country Day. She received a BA degree from the Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1937. She was employed by the Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services and later the Georgia State Department of Human Resources as a Quality Control Coordinator covering 18 counties in Southeast Georgia, retiring after 19 years of service. Although she was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, she was also a long time communicant of Independent Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Saffold was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Claghorn Saffold. Survivors include her children, Katharine Saffold Arnold Hugh, Joseph C. Saffold, Jr. and John B. Saffold, all of Savannah; 5 grandchildren, Katharine Rapkin Cohen Aaron, of Savannah, Mary Rapkin Fogo Justin of Birmingham, AL, Paul Michael Rapkin of Lincoln, Nebraska, Stephen McAllister Saffold and Joseph Lawton Saffold, both of
Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend deepest appreciation and thanks to the staff of Marsh View Senior Living, Hospice of Savannah, Gwen Lewis, Margie Williams, and other caregivers.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 12:00 P.M., Saturday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Private family burial will be at Bonaventure Cemetery.
