Charles E. Williams, 94 of Savannah, GA passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Greenville, GA., Wednesday November 19, 2008.
He was born November 19, 1914 to James Hudson and Ethel Keel Williams on a farm in Portal, GA where he grew up and helped his father farm the land until he married Janelle Chance in 1938, who predeceased him in 1985. He left the farm in 1940 and for the next few years helped to build many of the forts from Augusta to Indiana and after that went to work at the shipyards in Savannah during the war. After the war was over he went into the home building business, moved to Savannah in1956 and helped to build many beautiful homes in and around Savannah and Statesboro.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Judy W. Hall, deceased 1967, and son Larry C. Williams, deceased 1994. Also predeceased by 3 brothers Carlos, Preston and W. H. Williams and 3 sisters, Seffie W. Chester, Robina W. Jones, and Ann W. Turner Morey.
He is survived by his wife Bernice Austin Williams who lives with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Harold Bush of Yorktown, Virginia, his daughter, Linda W. Latzak of Greenville, Georgia, his son Gary Williams of Savannah and his youngest brother, R. Hudson Williams of Millen, Georgia. Granddaughters, Laura L. Keith and Jim, Moultrie, GA, Leah L. Beckom, and Lamar, LaGrange, GA, Shelley W. Burgess, and Dennis, Savannah, GA, his grandson, Jay Latzak of Stockbridge, Georgia and great-grandchildren, Kimberly E. Kelly, Cameron, Kyle Estes, Nicholas Beckom, Linda K. Dunnavant, Daniel James W. , Anna Leigh and John William Keith, Luke Latzak and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
