Ernest J. Joyner, 86, died December 21, 2008 at Savannah Commons. The Sylvania native had lived most of his life in Savannah. A veteran of the United States Army during World War II, he served in Africa, Italy and Japan. He retired in 1988 from Union Camp Corporation after 38 years. Mr. Joyner was a member of Thunderbolt Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World, Camp 4. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Gay Joyner and son, Stanley Joyner.
Surviving are a sister, Evelyn Joyner Ball of Savannah; three grandchildren, Jay Joyner of Savannah; Keary Joyner, of St. Louis, MO; Celeste Wachsman of Huntsville, AL; two great-granddaughters, Haley and Laney Wachsman of Huntsville, AL; several nieces and nephews and his caregivers, friend, Shirley Giella and niece, Gerri Jenkins.
Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Service: 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with Reverend Marshall Ray, officiating.
Pallbearers will be, Mike Joyner, Richard Joyner, Frank Joyner, George, Joyner, Donald Joyner, Larry Sammons and Eric Brown.
Burial: Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
