James William Grable
SAVANNAH - James William Grable, 67, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at Hospice House. The native of Dawson Springs, Kentucky was born March 4, 1941 to David and Dessie Rae Grable.
He graduated from Paducah Junior College in 1961 and from Western Kentucky State College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in math, science and physical education. After graduation he became a teacher and basketball coach at Mounds High School in Mounds, IL. In 1991 he received his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters designation.
In 1972 he came to Savannah while working for ITT Corporation. He later began his career with Nationwide Insurance as an agent and started his own agency, Grable Insurance. He retired in 2007 after 25 years of service.
He was a former member and officer of the Lions Club of Savannah, a member of the CPCU organization and a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church.
Jim enjoyed fishing, shrimping and playing pool with his buddies. He was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed reading and watching movies. He loved spending time with friends and family and was so proud of his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Livingston Grable of Savannah; daughters and sons-in-law, Terrie and Chris Spells of Monument, CO and Krista and Benjamin Schumm of Savannah; son Cliff Grable of Atlanta; and grandchildren, Corbin, Landon, and Hunter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family suggests remembrances be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

I'm so sorry to hear of this loss. I did not know James personally but remember being in school at Dawson Springs the same time that he was. He was a few years ahead of me but I do have memories of him being on the ballteam. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
