John Joseph "Moon" Mullen, 87, passed away on Monday, February 02, 2009 under the care of Hospice Savannah.

Mr. Mullen was born on April 20, 1921 in the Green Point Section of Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late William and Elizabeth Kenna Mullen. John served in the United States Army during WWII, fighting in the first invasion of Normandy on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. "Moon", as he was known in Savannah was very active in sports after settling here in 1956. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #631 and served as Grand Knight. He was a charter member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and a longtime communicant of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Moon enjoyed the years that he spent coaching the Knights of Columbus softball team, marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Roughen Mullen; brother, Edward Mullen and dear friend, Michael Handiboe Powers. He is survived by his children, John J. Mullen, Jr. and wife Kay, Eileen Walker and husband Daryl, Teresa Muller and husband Joe, Maureen Cliett and husband Joe; grandchildren, Patrick Mullen and wife Marie, Joseph Muller, III and wife Jen, Katherine Morgan and husband Kris, Edward Muller, Timothy Muller, Matthew Walker and wife Lisa, Brian Walker and wife April, Margaret Cliett and Joseph Cliett; great grandchildren, Aeden Mullen, Gabby, Olivia, Jack, Isabella and Liam Muller, Kyla and Dylan Walker; sister, Betty Hyland; brother, Thomas Mullen and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist with burial following at Bonaventure Cemetery.
