Celebrating the life of

Mary Agnes Johnson

February 11, 1929 - February 23, 2009

Mary Agnes Johnson

Thunderbolt- Mary Agnes Johnson died peacefully in her Thunderbolt home on Monday, February 23, 2009, two weeks after celebrating her eightieth birthday.

She was the daughter of Margaret E. Hutton and Thomas E. Johnson. She was preceded in death by her beloved cousins, Gertrude Kehoe Beytagh and J. Herbert Johnson, Jr., whom she considered her sister and brother.

She attended Cathedral Day School and was a graduate of the 1947 class of St. Vincent's Academy. After graduation, she was employed by Union Camp Corporation where she worked for forty years until her retirement. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Daughters of Ireland.

Upon the death of her cousin Gertrude, she stepped in to become surrogate mother and grandmother for the Beytagh children. She was never as happy as when she attended Grandparents Day or any school function for many of the children. But her greatest joy was to be at one of their homes for Christmas Eve to await the arrival of Santa Claus and to watch the children open their gifts. St. Patrick's Day was her favorite holiday and every year she watched the parade from her chair in Chippewa Square. As the parade ended she awaited the family, meeting them with corned beef sandwiches and cold drinks.

She is survived by Mrs. J. Herbert Jean Johnson, William J. Johnson, Mary Julia Johnson, Thomas J. Beytagh, Jr. Mary Ellen, John P. Beytagh Amy, Catherine B. Shanahan Mike, Angela B. Stegin Billy, Michael E. Beytagh Darlene, Patricia B. Foran Mike, Peg B. Kicklighter, Gertrude B. Harris Robert and Suzanne B. Johnson David and many great nieces and nephews.
