Skipper! I remember what a good friend you were to my brother Nicky, who died in 1988. I was only 16 when I met you. I'll never forget you reading Dorothy Parker poems out loud to me by candlelight. You had such a beautiful voice. You fixed up a room for me to stay in, filled with plants and candles and shells. I only wish i had told you how much you meant to me. You were like another big brother to me. I read the book, 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' and saw that both you and Ron Strahan were mentioned. What a loss to the world to lose both of you. Ron with his love of art, and you with your love of plants and nature and books. I was a young, crazy street kid in those days. Thank you for being a friend to me, treating with me respect, and attempting to guide me. through those troubled times. Love, Saratoga

I have so many fond memories of our relationship especially during my childhood. I will remember with fondness your apparent appreciation of me & my sense of humor, our spirited debates & your respect of nature. I only wish I had had the opportunity to tell you how much I valued our relationship although I think you may have known and to have offered you comfort. I will miss you!

Many times looking back at my early growing up years in Savannah, it was Skipper's welcoming laughter and invitation into his inner sanctum of candles, incense and story telling that stirred my imagination and made me think of strange and wonderful adventures that could be discovered in the 'outside' world away from my tender beginnings. JRR Tolkein's 'The Hobbit' read to me with a flourish and blaze of drama started my journey into the imaginative worlds of books that were outside the required reading at St. Vincent's Academy. Oh what a world he set me onto! I'm sad to think he is not in that world any longer. My sympathy goes to the family I never met. Bon Voyage with fond memories, Skipper.
