Celebrating the life of
Lonnie E. Bud Carter
March 20, 1926 - March 23, 2009
Savannah- Mr. Lonnie Carter died Monday, March 23, 2009 under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Bud was born in Bloomingdale, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter. He was raised at Bethesda Home for Boys, due to his father's early demise. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and after discharge, was employed with Bell South, retiring after 30 years of service. He and his wife owned and operated the Chimney Creek Fishing Camp at Tybee Island for 10 years. Bud was a member of Communication Workers of America, Retired Club and American Legion, Post 184.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Bell Carter; sister, Ima C. Terrell; step-sons, Jimmy L. Stafford and Steve D. Stafford; two grandchildren, Jan S. White and Brian L. Stafford and three great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24th at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25th in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery with Reverend Marshall Ray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be sent to Thunderbolt Baptist Church, 3205 Russell St., Thunderbolt, GA 31404.
All the memories I have of Bud will always be cherished. Especially him nicknaming Brian 'Plug'. My heart goes out to the whole family. With all my love!
