Mary Bailey Garfield Coward

SAVANNAH - Mary Bailey Garfield Coward, 96, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2009. She was born August 15, 1912, in Savannah, GA, and was a lifelong resident of Savannah.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bertrium H. Garfield and Louise Bailey Garfield, her husband of sixty-seven years, Walter C. Coward, Sr., and a son, Arthur Garfield Coward.
Mrs. Coward was a life-long member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Altar Guild, St. Claire's Guild, and the Episcopal Christian Women's Club. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was active in the P.T.A. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother "Gi-Gi".
Survivors include her son Walter C. Coward, Jr. and his wife Dolores, and her daughter-in-law Cynthia Coward, all of Savannah; grandchildren Walter C. Coward III and wife Lori of Orlando, FL, Edward S. Coward and wife Becky of Newton Falls, OH, Mary Ann Bell of Savannah, Ruthie Sauer and husband David of Guyton, Rosie Hinteregger of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Stephen A. Coward and wife Adriane of Decatur, AL; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church with The Rev. William Scotty Brock officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
