James Louis Davis, Jr.

James Louis Davis, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019 at Hospice Savannah surrounded by his family and holding hands with his beloved Annie.
Jim was born on September 21, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia to James Louis and Margaret Urquhart Davis. He was a Christian and one of the oldest living members of First Presbyterian Church. Jim graduated from Carlyle Military Academy in Bamburg, SC. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight for his country during World War II and landed with the troops at Normandy Beach on D-Day. Upon returning home, Jim was employed by Union Camp Corp. in Mill Technical for 40 years. In his leisure, he enjoyed playing half-rubber and softball and was an avid bowler and city ten pin champ. In retirement he spent many hours on the golf course perfecting his game. Jim was a member of American Legion Post 184 and proud of his military service.
Jim was a quiet, humble man who more than anything enjoyed home and family. Fondest memories revolve around summer vacations at Tybee spent fishing and crabbing with his girls. But nothing brought him more joy than his grandkids. Baby Lawson was "Poppy's" biggest fan. Despite his many illnesses and frequent setbacks Jim was a resilient man whose big heart and generous spirit always prevailed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret and his grandson, Christopher James Martin. He is survived by his wife Ann, his childhood sweetheart and devoted wife of 66 years, daughters Debra Lance (Michael) and Jane Martin (Robert), granddaughters Jamison Machen (Kyle) and Kaitlin Lance, great-grandson Lawson Neal and several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the staff of Azalealand Nursing Home for their care and comfort in his final months. Thank you to Hospice Savannah for their compassion in his final hours.
Graveside service: Monday, January 7th at 2:00 P.M. at Bonaventure Cemetery.
