SAVANNAH – Sam Crumpton, age 82, died Sunday, April 19, 2009. The Woodland, GA native was a longtime resident of Savannah and a member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus. He had lived in Chester, GA for the past three years.
He was the former co-owner of C&S Upholstery Supply and was retired from the S & A Railroad as a switch foreman. Mr. Crumpton was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Deloach Crumpton. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Crumpton; four daughters, one step-daughter, and three step-sons. Faye Corson Sam of Vicksburg, MS, Eva Crumpton and Nancy Wheless Mike both of Savannah, Mae-jo Britt Alfred of Thomaston, GA, Barbara Amerson Carroll of Chester, GA, Mike Cavanah of Eastman, GA, Harold Cavanah Debra of Danville, GA, and Frank Cavanah Lisa of Cochran, GA. Three sisters, Doris Smith of Barnesville, GA, Alice Yardman of Boling Green, KY, and Majo Hodges of Savannah. Three brothers, Pruitt Crumpton of Bessemer; AL, Waymond Crumpton of Savannah, and Danny Crumpton of Warrenton, GA, twenty-one grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Faith Primitive Baptist Church, 3213 Bee Road, Savannah. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of Georgia, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406.
Thanks for the wonderful childhood memories I'll always cherish, Sam, with you and your wonderful family. One of my favorite summers as a kid was coming to your house and spending the summer with your family. Thanks for being such a good friend to my dad. I will miss you! Girls, I am thinking of you all and sending you my love!!!

Bro Sam served as Director of The Lighthouse Foundation. He would tell metreasurerto let him know when our funds were low. He would always bail us out, and of course it had to be anonamously.
