Savannah – Martha Paul Thomas, 88, passed away in peace, surrounded by her family on Monday, May 25, 2009 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. She was born on December 6, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. Martha was married to the late James Claiborne Thomas. She was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother who gave unselfishly to her family. Martha raised her children in Columbus, Georgia where she was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church. She later moved to Savannah, Georgia where she was a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church. She was taught to sew by her mother and passed her talents along to her daughter. Martha's dresses are still worn by her great grandchildren, and she will forever be remembered as they are passed down from generation to generation.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sheila Thomas of Albany, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Bill Baker of Savannah, Georgia; two brothers, and their spouses, Leroy and Jane Paul and Kenneth and Linda Paul; four grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Jami Thomas, Emily and Ryan Mello, Elizabeth and Tim Brennan, and Jay and Kaitlin Thomas, and three great grandchildren, Lilla Brennan, Sullivan Thomas and Margaret Brennan.
Graveside Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery conducted by Dr. A. Jason Shirah and Rev. M. Creede Hinshaw.
