James  Julian  Butler, Sr. J.J.

James Julian Butler, Sr., J.J., born August 13, 1927 passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday May 26, 2009. He was born in Hawkinsville, GA and moved to Metter where he met his devoted wife, Nell. He lived most of his life in Savannah, GA. He served in the armed forces during World War II. In his early career he was a staff manager with Life of Georgia Insurance Company and for many years he was the regional manager for Modern Homes, and was a district sales manager for Florida Hardware. Mr. Butler was a 50 year member of the Metter Masonic Lodge #435 F&AM and the President of the Golf Unit for the Alee Shrine in Savannah. After his retirement he was an avid golfer, fisherman, and was devoted to his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julian Pete Butler, his mother, Johnnie D. Butler, his brothers, Jackson M. Butler, Sr., and Jimmy P. Butler, and one grandson, Carey Carter Zipperer.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, of 65 years, Ganell M. Butler, one son and daughter-in-law, James J. Butler, Jr. Corky and Rita, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen B. Zipperer and Grover, all of Savannah. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerry O. Butler, of Cordele, GA, and Jesse A. Butler, of Bainbridge, GA, one sister, Judy B. Beasley, of Camilla, GA., also six grandchildren, Cleve G. Zipperer, III, Corbin James Zipperer, Christopher Arthur Zipperer, Sr., James J.Jason Butler, III, Jeffrey Richard Butler, and Heidi Butler O'Connor, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2009 at Isle of Hope Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic rites.

Remembrances may be made to Isle of Hope Baptist Church or Hospice Savannah.
