Celebrating the life of
Carolyn Pickens
June 15, 1933 - June 28, 2009
Carolyn Pickens
SAVANNAH, Carolyn Pickens, 76, passed away after a long illness on Sunday, June 28, 2009. She was born in Dunbar, WV and graduated from Dunbar High School. She raised her family in Ravenswood, WV until moving to her adopted hometown of Savannah in 1969. She was a longtime employee of Belk at Oglethorpe Mall in the shoe department. Although she worked at Belk, her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her true career. She was lovingly known as "Mo" within the family. Shortly after moving to Savannah she committed her life to Christ. She was a dedicated member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church for many years before moving to Isle of Hope and joining Skidaway Island Baptist Church. While at Windsor, she served as a Sunday school teacher, in the Stephens ministry and in missions. Through their faith and example, she and Gene led all four of their children to Christ. While her family is heartbroken, they rejoice with certainty that she now has a new body and is rejoicing with Jesus.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gene Pickens; Daughters Sherri Goodman Jeff, Sandi Alderman Tom, Jill Evans Hal and her son Steve Pickens Heather; Eleven Grand children, Jaime Tift, Brent Goodman, Trae Alderman, Caroline Freeman, Aimee McDonald, Brett Evans, Erica Evans, Bryce Evans, Jonathan Pickens, Jessica Pickens, and Joshua Pickens, and Seven great-grandchildren. Carolyn was the oldest child of Arnold and Jean Smith.
Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The family wants to extend a special thanks to Gail Buttress-Doyle. She was a cool cup of water from God and gave much love, care and comfort for which the family is eternally grateful.
