-SAVANNAH – Capt. John Philip Deane, United States Air Force Retired, of Panama City, Florida died unexpectedly Friday, July 3 at his Mother's home in Savannah. Born June 5, 1947 at Telfair Hospital in Savannah he resided in Panama City Florida with his family since 1983. He previously served with the United States Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War era, his primary occupational specialist training being that of a combat medic. Following an honorable discharge from the United States Army he received further medical training at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist. In 1981 while providing medical services as a civilian at the United States Naval Air Station Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida he received a meritorious commendation for exemplary performance related to the provision of medical support to injured crew members of the USS Nimitz. Continuing to pursue his medical career, in 1983 he accepted a commission in the United States Air Force as a certified registered nurse anesthetist and later retired, for medical reasons, as a Captain. He went on to provide services in private practice for many years as a certified registered nurse anesthetist in the Panama City, Florida area. He is survived by those members of his immediate family including his mother Elsie Gnann Deane of Savannah, wife Patricia Ann Deane a certified registered nurse anesthetist as well, daughter Erika Deane-Brovey, granddaughter Lauren Gabrielle Brovey, his two sons Johnathan Charles Deane and Andrew Laurence Deane as well as his brother Charles Laurence Deane.
There will be a family attended graveside service officiated by his cousin William A. Kruse at Bonaventure Cemetery, 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009.
Remembrances: Humane Society of the United States, the Underwater Crime Scene Investigation program at Florida State University and the Disabled American Veterans.
