Birgitta Viola Pierong Ljungdahl

SAVANNAH – Mrs. Birgitta V. Ljungdahl, 65, passed away on August 9, 2009 after a brave battle against cancer.
She was born October 11th, 1943 in Stockholm Sweden. Before immigrating to the United States with her family in 1990, Mrs. Ljungdahl was the Mayor and Executive Director for the city of Habo in Sweden. Throughout her career, she also served two terms as a State Senator for the state of Upland, as a Director of the board for several banks as well as for one of the largest teaching hospitals in Sweden, Uppsala Akademiska Sjukhus.
Mrs. Ljungdahl moved to Savannah with her husband in 1997 where she made great friends and really enjoyed her life.
Mrs. Birgitta Ljungdahl will be remembered by friends and family as a very caring and compassionate person with a zest for life, and above all else for being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Mr. Lars Ljungdahl; her daughter, Ann C. Ljungdahl-Hook Lars of Atlanta; her son, Mr. Christer Ljungdahl Jamille of Austin Texas; her grandchildren, Alicia, Ethan and Christian; her mother, Sara Pierong of Stockholm Sweden; her two brothers, Rolf Pierong and Lars Pierong of Stockholm Sweden, the many friends who shared the good times in her life and especially those that supported her through the end.
A memorial services will be held at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm with a reception following.
