Celebrating the life of
Debra Kaye Mahoney
August 21, 1963 - August 26, 2009
Debra Kay Mahoney entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 after a long illness.
Debbie was born on August 21, 1963 and lived most of her life in Savannah where she had so many dear friends and never met a stranger. Her kind, loving spirit, along with her beautiful smile and her trademark "I love you" at the end of every conversation will be missed by all. She worked for many years at Memorial Hospital in several departments where she was respected and loved by all who came in contact with her. She was a ray of sunshine in most every St. Patrick's Day parade for many years, often walking alongside her dad but stopping every few feet to greet someone she knew along the way. She has left us now to join her beloved son Michael who preceded her in passing 4 years ago and with whose loss she has struggled for so long.
Debbie is survived by her loving parents, Roland and Sandra Mahoney of Savannah, GA; her brother, Buddy Mahoney of Seattle, WA; sisters, Claire Neal and her husband, John of Richmond Hill and Laurie Barre and her husband, Matt of Columbus, GA; her nephew, Alex Neal; and three nieces, Ashlee Neal and Madison and Chandler Barre, who all loved her tremendously. She also leaves her cherished aunt, Jenell Griffith, who never left her side during her final struggle and whose very presence helped Debbie's family cope with her loss; her adored uncle, Thomas J. Mahoney and his family, as well as dozens of cousins and friends in Savannah and across the country.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Msgr. P. James Costigan and Father Patrick O'Brien, Celebrants. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

Sandra and Roland, Through the wonders of today's communication I was able to pray for Debbie and your family during the heartbreaking weeks that preceded her going to be with the Lord and her beloved Michael. I know how you all struggled through the loss of Michael and believe it is a comfort to you that she is now reunited with him in heaven. I will continue to pray that the Lord, in His wisdom, will continue His oversight in your lives and that you will learn to accept that Debbie and Michael are content with the Lord. Micki

Dear Mahoney family, I met Debbie only once through a very close mutual friend, but felt like I knew her much better. I was amazed by her grace and warmth, despite the very raw pain she was still in over the death of her son. Please accept my condolences, and know for sure that she is now eternally peaceful, healthy, and glowing with her son and God. What a wonderful reunion that must have been. I'm so sorry for your loss.
