Elizabeth Ann Leon

Elizabeth Eure Leon went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 28, 2009. She was born on June 20, 1918 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Hight Crawford Eure and Mattie Burnette Eure. "Liz" grew up in Charleston, SC and moved to Savannah in 1931. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a longtime member of the Savannah Golf Club, and excellent golfer and a top bowler in the Savannah's Women's Duckpin League. Liz was an avid bridge player and an Atlanta Braves fan.

In addition to her parents, Liz was preceded in death by a son, Hight Crawford Eure Leon; her sister, Dixie Lee Fortune and four brothers, infant William Eure; Arthur Hight Eure; John Crawford Eure and Harvey Clifton Eure.

She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, George John Leon, Jr.; a son, George John Leon, III and his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Kay Leon Wilson and her husband, Barry;her brother, James B. Eure; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Beatrice Perry for her dedication, caregiving and encouragement. We also express appreciation to Florrie Barnwell, Janice Ryant, Angela Newman and especially, Spanish Oaks Hospice.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2009 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park with the Rev. Earl Best officiating.

Remembrances: Memorial contributions may be made to Spanish Oaks Hospice, 8510 Whitfield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406 or Immanuel Baptist Church, 7375 Hodgson Memorial Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.
