Celebrating the life of

Richard Emerson McAllaster

October 24, 1994 - January 01, 2010

Richard Emerson McAllaster

Richard "Ricky" Emerson McAllaster, Jr. , age 15, died early New Year's morning in an automobile accident. Ricky, the son of Richard Emerson and Elison Backus McAllaster, is survived by his parents, his brother, George Mingledorff, his sister, Ann Marie McAllaster, his grandmothers, Marie Backus McGaughey of Savannah, GA, and Sally McAllaster of Port Orchard, WA; many aunts and uncles and a nephew and niece, Emily and George Mingledorff, Jr.

Ricky lived life to the fullest while always exhibiting abundant energy and a very strong will. When he was seven, Ricky's family moved to Breckenridge, CO; where he fell in love with extreme sports. He became a successful snowboard racer, sometimes soaring 40 feet into the air, raced 18 year old boys in downhill mountain biking, competed in mountain bike races, was a champion ice hockey goalie, played Lacrosse, and fell in love with the outdoor lifestyle of the Rockies. He was a sensational athlete excelling in virtually every sport he tried. This past fall he became the only freshman ever chosen for Team Palmetto, the elite South Carolina High School lacrosse team. He was a three time Middle School All State selection in lacrosse, a nationally ranked downhill mountain biker at the age of 11, the goalie for Summit Hockey's runner- up Colorado State Champion team at age 11, and a former competitive snowboarder with Team Summit. Upon moving back to Savannah, Ricky started playing golf, and shot a hole in one during his first year on the Savannah Christian golf team. One of his coaches referred to Ricky as "Hollywood" because of his flair for the game, and his snowboard coach said that Ricky came down the mountain "like his hair was on fire," but more than that Ricky loved and respected the game, no matter what game it was. Ricky was instrumental in encouraging his High School, Benedictine, to start the first High School Lacrosse team in town, and his teammates are dedicating this season to Ricky. A Ricky McAllaster Memorial Lacrosse tournament is in the planning for the spring. Ricky is best known for his love of people - he loved being with his friends, and he truly loved his friends. Although he was just a freshman, he loved BC, and felt he had found his home there. Ricky packed more living into 15 years of life than most people do their entire life. His parents fondly describe him as their "shooting star". He burned bright and hot, full of life and love, as he flew through their lives way too fast.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 5, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the Benedictine service.

The McAllaster family requests that any donations be sent to either the George & Marie Backus Children's Hospital at Memorial, or to Benedictine Military School for the Ricky McAllaster Lacrosse Scholarship fund.

I remember going over to your house and hanging out with ann marie and all of the other girls and you and your friends would annoy the crap out of us, but we loved you regardless. You were one of those people so thirtsy for life and it saddens me that your life was cut so short. What makes me smile is knowing that you lived your life to the fullest, probably more than most. You were a crazy kid, and you know what? I wouldn't have had it any other way. You were a good kid. Your parents brought you up right and there will never be another young man like you. I love you Ricky McAllaster. I hope you're watching over us with one of your dorky smiles. Rest in Peace kiddo. I was Ricky's fifth grade teacher and I will always remember his abundant energy that filled our classroom. I remember Ricky struggling with a topic for a written report when he discovered how the game of lacrosse was started with the Native Americans. Then he was off and running. On my way to school, I would often see Ricky riding his bike soaring like the wind. I would wave and he'd smile his million dollar smile. He always brought energy, humor and laughter into our lives. He was a joyful soul.

I really don't know how to begin. I can't comprehend that someone so happy and full of life can be taken away so quickly. I keep expecting little Ricky to come through the door laughing saying 'it was a joke stop crying i was just kidding.'I guess reality hasn't sunk in yet, but I thank God that He was a part of my life in his short 15 years. He was always the first person I called when I was having a bad day and the first person to threaten to beat up the boy that made me cry. He truly was an angel on earth. I don't feel like i should say goodbye because this is just the beginning for Ricky. Death is but Rikys next great adventure. My hearts go out to the McAllaster family, if you guys need anything don't hesitate to call you know where yo find me. love you guys. Play it big in heaven little man, I love you.

we may not have been the best of friends but i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the lessons you taught me. i now know that i should live life to the fullest like you did, tell people i love them as often as i can, & treat everyone i cross paths with like a friend & not a stranger. hearing all those glory stories about you made me crack up, everysingle one. i really wish that i would've had the courage to talk to you more while you were still with us. i was so so so shocked when i got on facebook new years day & read all the statuses that said rest in peace ricky. as i scrolled down i hoped & prayed it wasn't you but i just had a gut feeling it was. everyone is still so crushed about everything, & even if we don't want to accept it, it was God's plan & He brought you back home at the right time. the way He took you was devastating, but it taught us all a very valuable lesson & ricky you just saved so many lives. i passed by where you got your wings last night at about 10. all your friends were still there & it was like 35 degrees. they love you ricky. looking at your picture to the left makes me shake. you will be missed so very very much. watch over all your friends & comfort them, they really need you right now. put in a good word with the big man for all of us & save a spot for us. you will always be remembered for that gorgeous bright smile of yours that brought so much light into so many lives & for the infinitely valuable lessons you taught us all. you may be gone but you will never ever be forgotten ricky mcallaster. you own a big piece of all of our hearts. we love you ricky, have fun in heaven bud, can't wait to see you again ♥

Although you were taken so soon, God called you home for a reason. We may not all know why this happened or why so soon, but we all know God has a plan for everything. Together we have grown to be here for one another. You were and always will be amazing in every way. Now it is time to rejoice to the Heavenly Father that you are now at peace and watching over each and everyone one of us as our special angel. You will forever be a part of my life.

Ricky, you are one of the few genuine people that i will ever have the pleasure of knowing. You are always nice and happy and know how to make everyone laugh. It's hard you know man, to think that your really gone, especially you. I keep expecting to get a call asking to hangout like usual. Everyone misses you and wants you back probably more than you can ever imagine. We had some good times Ricky. I love you, miss you, and will never forget you. Rest in peace my friend.

- Ricky Timms, Savannah, GA

Ricky I will never forget all of our memories over the summer. How we would always push JP off when we were tubing and then get mad at him for falling off. I will never forget your smile and how you said you were going to marry me because I was the only girl that could stay on the tube. I will always miss you and it still hasnt hit me that your not coming back but I do know that your up there having an amazing time in true Ricky fashion. Watch over all of us I love you and miss you terribly.

- Sarah Stanic, savannah, GA

To Ricky: It may had been your time to go, but you'll never fully leave us, all of us will still have a piece of you, stored in our hearts that we'll never let go. I realize that you're in a better place now, and I know that you're somewhere up there, looking down at us, and now i hope YOU realize how much your friends and your family love you. Watch over us Ricky. My prayers are directed towards you and your family. I love you! ♥ Ashley DeLoach

Dear Elison, I cannot imagine the pain in your heart as you are constantly on my mind. Jordan will always love Ricky like a brother and she always shared so many great stories about him. We enjoyed his company so much when we took him to the concert with us. He made us laugh & we felt like we had known him forever. Thank you for letting us have him in our care that weekend. He will so sadly be missed by all his many friends and family. I don't think he ever met a stranger. Please try and hand this over to Our Heavenly Father so he may carry you with some peace in your heart as it tries to mend. Though we only spoke briefly, I feel I know you so well and your sweet Motherly protection was expressed to me about Ricky the days that we spoke. Your boy is too precious to ever be forgotten. Ricky will be sorely missed by so many people. I can't tell you how many times Ricky made me laugh. He and I would have a tug-of-war to get him to his own classroom in eighth grade. I'd find him hiding under my desk, sitting in at desk pretending he was supposed to be in my room and often writing me messages of endearment on my board -he'd have my class in stitches. His smile could light up a room. Ricky will live in my heart forever. lots of love to all his family, Beth Lynah

Dick, Elison & family, Our deepest sympathy is with you at this most difficult of times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as well. Ricky was a special young man who touched a lot of lives in his short time with us. He was a natural leader on the field who played hard with moves and a flair beyond his years. He was an absolute joy to watch play LAX and his shot-making and antics earned him a nickname that summed up his on-field presense,'Hollywood'. He never knew the word quit and when his team had an opponent put away,he would unselfishly set-up his teamates to score. He took the time to teach our son Liam, and a good many other younger kids, the game. And for that, they looked up to him like a cool big brother. That, in and of itself, is his legacy. He will be missed by not only his family, many friends and teamates, but also by a few of us adults who were lucky enough to be touched by his spirit.

- The Cunninghams, Tom, Chris, Ryan & Liam, Savannah, GA

Ricky and family. Even though i only met Ricky once or twice it did not take very long To realize what a great guy he was. He never looked upset and always had a big smile on his face... I still can't wrap my mind around it all but I am very sorry and I and everyone know that our Ricky is in a better place. I'm very sorry for your loss he is in our thoughts and prayers..

- Cheryl McLaughlin, Denver, CO

Gosh Ricky. You were like a brother to me and I only knew you for three years. I'm going to miss your 3am calls and giving you rides to your friend's house. Until we meet again. If tears could build a stairway, And memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven And bring you home again.

- Sharon Leiphart, Savannah, GA

- Cara Martin, Richmond Hill, GA

I was Ricky's fifth grade teacher and I will always remember his abundant energy that filled our classroom. I remember Ricky struggling with a topic for a written report when he discovered how the game of lacrosse was started with the Native Americans. Then he was off and running. On my way to school, I would often see Ricky riding his bike soaring like the wind. I would wave and he'd smile his million dollar smile. He always brought energy, humor and laughter into our lives. He was a joyful soul.

- Deb Snyder and Family, Frisco, CO

Dick, Elison and Ann Marie, It's been a long time since we've worked together at Merrill Lynch. I can remember when Elison brought Ann Marie in the office, such a beautiful baby. Then Ricky came along, such a gorgeous little boy. What a Blessing you've received from God. My heart aches for the awful pain your in. My prayers are with you and your family and may God give you peace and comfort in the days to come. Your Friend, Pat Wiggins Jan 3 2010

- Pat Wiggins, Shellman Bluff, GA

Play it big in heaven little man, I love you.

we may not have been the best of friends but i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the lessons you taught me. i now know that i should live life to the fullest like you did, tell people i love them as often as i can, & treat everyone i cross paths with like a friend & not a stranger. hearing all those glory stories about you made me crack up, everysingle one. i really wish that i would've had the courage to talk to you more while you were still with us. i was so so so shocked when i got on facebook new years day & read all the statuses that said rest in peace ricky. as i scrolled down i hoped & prayed it wasn't you but i just had a gut feeling it was. everyone is still so crushed about everything, & even if we don't want to accept it, it was God's plan & He brought you back home at the right time. the way He took you was devastating, but it taught us all a very valuable lesson & ricky you just saved so many lives. i passed by where you got your wings last night at about 10. all your friends were still there & it was like 35 degrees. they love you ricky. looking at your picture to the left makes me shake. you will be missed so very very much. watch over all your friends & comfort them, they really need you right now. put in a good word with the big man for all of us & save a spot for us. you will always be remembered for that gorgeous bright smile of yours that brought so much light into so many lives & for the infinitely valuable lessons you taught us all. you may be gone but you will never ever be forgotten ricky mcallaster. you own a big piece of all of our hearts. we love you ricky, have fun in heaven bud, can't wait to see you again ♥

ricky, i miss you so much already. and it's only been a few days, but i guess it's the fact that your gone forever now..we met in 2008 through tyler gammel. you told him you thought i was really pretty and you wanted to get to know me so he gave you my number, and since then we've made so many great memories. i remembe...r the first time we hung out 2008 summer at the movies, it was like love at first site with you. : we made eachother happy, but then it all just kinda faded and we ended up breaking up. i'll never forget all the days and moments we spent together, the five months we dated were the best five months of my life by far. i'll miss your smile, and your cute laugh, and when you'd sneek out to come see me, and your random hugs and kisses. you were an amzing guy - no doubt about it. i wish you could see how many people really do care about you bud. i love you and i'll never forget you, ever. rest in peace and look down on me and keep me safe. okay? i love you, forever.

- Lindsey Mims, Richmond Hill, GA

Dear McAllaster family, My heart goes out to each and everyone of ya'll. I have never met someone as funny as Ricky. He knew how to always make someone laugh and to always keep your mind off of something when needed too. The memories we had togehter will always and forever will be in my heart until the day God calls me home. You were taken so early from us and we have all learned somethign from this. I will miss those great hugs you always coud warm me up with when i needed it the most. Your smile could light up a room in the dark.
