Celebrating the life of

Grace H. Neises

October 18, 1929 - January 10, 2010

Grace H. Neises

Grace Neises died Sunday, January 10 at home in Savannah, Georgia with her husband, Jack Neises. Grace then Ludeke was born in 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with high honors from the University of Cincinnati, where she met Jack. They married in 1951, and raised their three children in upstate New York and the Boston area, where she was also a business manager.

Grace and Jack moved to Savannah in 1992. She embraced her new home and became active in a variety of civic organizations. Grace was board chair and a board member for Parent and Child, an educational organization. She was an enthusiastic board member of Second Harvest, where she helped found the Kid's Café, Chefs Table, and Bread and Butter Café, all highly successful programs. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Telfair Museum for 13 years beginning in 1993, serving as a docent, librarian, fundraiser and auxiliary guild board member. Grace was elected to the statewide board of the Georgia State Historical Association, served as the membership chair and traveled the state widely in that capacity. She was the one of few non-native Georgians to receive that honor. Grace was active in the Savannah Symphony Women's Guild, serving on the board and hosting events to support the orchestra. She was involved in fundraising for the renovation of the Lucas Theatre, and for the work of the Georgia Nature Conservancy.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; brother, Ted Ludeke, of Cincinnati and Savannah; son, David Neises, and his wife, Sylvaine, of Savannah and Atlanta; son, Mark Neises, and his wife, Beth of Knoxville, TN; and daughter, Ellen Neises, and her husband, Patrick Colgan, of Brooklyn, NY; and four grandchildren: Laura Neises of New Orleans; Matt Neises of Dayton, TN; May and Nora Colgan; and many dear family friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the church.

Burial: Private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.
