Katherine Cafiero " Bootsie" Shearouse
Katherine Cafiero Shearouse, 85, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Savannah. Bootsie was a graduate of Saint Vincent's Academy and attended Notre Dome College in Maryland prior to the outbreak of World War II. She served the Church and School on many boards and committees and as President of the Home and School Board and the Altar Society. The Diocese of Savannah awarded her the Gartland Award for her service to the parish. Bootsie was a proud and loyal Georgia Bulldog fan. For over 40 years she followed the Dawgs in Athens and on the road, both in football and especially in track. She had a special love and devotion to her alma mater and the alma mater of her granddaughters, Saint Vincent's Academy, which awarded her the Catherine McAuley Award for her devotion to the Sisters of Mercy. She was also an Oblate of St. Bendict as well as a benefactor and supporter of Benedictine Military School, the alma mater of her husband, her sons and her grandson. Bootsie was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her ever-present smile, her unbounding generosity and her joyful sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty nine years, William W. "Billy" Shearouse.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph C. Shearouse and Celeste, William W. Shearouse, Jr. and Rhonda, and her grandchildren, Mary Katherine, Joseph Jr., Elizabeth and Stephanie, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
