Jack Haden Wynne

Jack Haden Wynne, 93, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Riverview Nursing Home. He was a native of Pulaski County, Georgia and lived in Savannah most of his life. He graduated from Eastman High School and then went on to serve in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Jack then joined the Navy serving from 1942 until 1945. After leaving the Navy he went to Middle Georgia College and received an A.A. degree, after leaving Middle Georgia he went to Georgia Southern where he received his B.S. degree. He then went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a master's degree in education.
Jack was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. He worked for the Chatham County School Board as a Coach at many area high schools. His first coaching job was at Commercial High School from 1950 until 1954. Coach Wynne briefly left education to serve as the Athletic Director of the Jewish Educational Alliance. After returning to education Coach Wynne went on to serve as Coordinator of Athletics and retired in 1980.
He was inducted into the Greater Savannah Area Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. After retiring he coached youth league sports for the Patriots Organization and the Southside Raiders.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jack H. Jay Wynne, Jr. and his daughter, Susan W. Bowen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ann Smith Wynne, of Savannah, grandson, Jack Bowen, of Atlanta, son-in-law, Charles Bowen, of Atlanta, nieces, Carol Jordan, of Savannah, and Laura Lightle, of Ellabell, nephews, Charles Jordan, of Monroe, GA, Ricky Jordan, of Vidalia, Bob Wynne, Jr., of Ocala, FL, and Bill Wynne, of Gainesville, FL.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, Pastor's Emergency Fund, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah, GA 31406.
