Freida Catherine Huffstetler Shealy
Savannah – Freida Catherine Huffstetler Shealy passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Freida was born November 24, 1924 in Chapin, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Elbert and Leila Huffstetler and the late Pearl Huffstetler. She attended Chapin High School. She then moved to Charleston, SC where she was a welder during World War II. She was transferred to Savannah where she met her loving husband of 65 years and began her family. She went to business school and began a 25 year career at Hillcrest Abbey where the record keeping systems and practices she put in place are still being utilized today. She was a member of the Reformation Church until transferring her membership to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in September 1980. She was an active WELCA Circle Member.
Freida was a passionate and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and daughter. Her favorite pastimes were cooking as her recipes were loved by many and are published in numerous cookbooks as well as getting together with family and friends either in Savannah or at the lake house in Chapin.
Freida was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bernard Huffstetler of Little Mountain, SC and her sister Faye Rose of Hopkins, SC.
She is survived by her husband John P. Shealy Sr.; sons, John P. Shealy Jr. Cindy and Daniel L. Shealy; granddaughters, Cara Getter Matt, Anne Shealy, Christine Shealy, Catherine Shealy, and Caroline Shealy; great grandson, John Page Getter; sister, Lila Cromer of Newberry, SC; brothers, Clyde Huffstetler and Eugene Huffstetler of Chapin, SC; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
She was loved by all.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter J. Hartmann officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tim Huffstetler, Daryl Cannon, Stanley Rose, Alan Huffstetler, Charlie Cromer, Bubba Frick and Mike Huffstetler.
Burial: Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
