James  Harry Stevenson, Sr.

Savannah- James Harry "Jimmy" Stevenson, Sr., 80, lost his courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Hospice Savannah, Inc.
Jimmy was born in Americus, GA, January 30, 1930 to the late Frank, Sr. and Dorothy Stevenson. His brothers, Frank, Jr. and Billy Stevenson and son, Jimmy Stevenson, Jr. preceded him in death.
Jimmy graduated from Savannah High School in 1947 and afterwards, joined the United States Navy. Honorably discharged at the end of his tour of duty, Jimmy returned to Savannah to accept the position of golf professional at the General Oglethorpe Golf Club, now known as the Wilmington Island Club, he remained there for sixteen years. After semi-retirement, Jimmy joined the staff of Marsh Wood-Magnolia Golf Club at the Landings Corporation. For seventeen years, he worked as a golf ranger and a tee-time starter. He was also a class A member of the Professional Golf Association for twenty-six years. Jimmy loved golf and stayed active in the profession until his recent illness. He was a lifetime member of Savannah Christian Church.
Devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Jane, whom he married in 1954; daughter, Jennifer Logue and her husband, Tony, of Covington, GA; son, Jeffrey Stevenson and his wife, Donna of Savannah; daughter-in-law, Robyn R. Stevenson wife of the late Jimmy Stevenson, Jr. of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Logue Elrod and her husband Jason, Drew Logue and his wife Tonya, Miles Logue all of Covington, Jimmy, Evan, Caitlyn and Emily Stevenson of Orlando, FL; step-grandchildren, Nancy and Shaun Rose of Savannah; great-grandchildren, Callie and Cohen Elrod, and Mason Logue of Covington, GA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Hodgson Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial: Bonaventure Cemetery.

Jane and Family,I am so sorry to hear about Jimmy's passing.I had the pleasure of knowing him since I was in the 9th grade and working in the summers at the General Oglethorpe.It was a pleasure to renew our friendship when Jimmy came to The Landings.He was a fine person and I never heard an unkind word said about him.You are in my prayers.
