Margaret "Margie" Baron Taylor
SAVANNAH - Margaret Mary Baron Taylor, wife of Kenneth Gordon Taylor, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Savannah, GA, following a period of declining health.
Born September 22, 1922 in Savannah, GA, Margie was the daughter of the late Edwin Anton and Lydia Olga Suchma Baron. After completing Port Wentworth Grammar School and Savannah High School, she attended Georgia Teacher's College now Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
Margie met her future husband in Port Wentworth where they both worked during the construction of the Southern Paperboard Mill. They married in Savannah in 1948, and spent the next decade on various pulp and paper mill project sites throughout the Southeast.
In 1958 they settled in Atlanta and became active communicants of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church for the next 47 years. Margie served on the Altar Guild, as a member of the Sts. Elizabeth Ann Chapter and on the Shepherd's Staff Committee welcoming newcomers to the church. Many parishioners recall her friendliness and warmth as the reason they joined St. Bartholomew's.
A gifted pianist, Margie's life-long love of music resulted in her dedicated involvement with St. Bartholomew's Organ Committee, and she shared her love of music with her children and grandchildren.
Margie had a strong interest in ancestral genealogy and her family's Texas-Czech heritage. She invested considerable time over the past 30 years in search of records about her immigrant family. She traveled to the Czech Republic formerly Czechoslovakia a number of times, both during and after communism, and she wrote a number of articles about her heritage which were published in the Czech Family Histories, Volumes III & IV of the Texas-Czech Genealogical Society.
Margie and Ken enjoyed traveling and toured extensively together throughout North America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
In 2005, they moved from Atlanta to the Marshes of Skidaway Island in Savannah.
Margie leaves behind a devoted family including her beloved husband of 61 years, Kenneth Gordon Taylor of Savannah. She also leaves three children: Virginia Taylor Beard and husband David of Greenville, SC; K. Gordon Taylor, Jr. and wife Kathleen of Savannah; and David E. Taylor and wife Charlotte of Bethesda, MD. She leaves six grandchildren: Elisabeth Beard Anders and husband Jason of Lexington, SC; Laura Beard Allen and husband Greg of Arlington, VA; Emily Taylor Bever and husband Adam of Oakton, VA; Kenneth Gordon Taylor, III, of Augusta, GA; Grahme E.
