Celebrating the life of

Roberta Whitehead Watson

September 19, 1926 - May 01, 2010

Roberta Whitehead Watson

Savannah- Mrs. Roberta "Bobby" Watson, 83, passed away quietly in her home surrounded by her family May 1, 2010, after a long illness.

She was born September 19, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillian Whitehead, and sister of the late Joan Jackson Klele Mirror. She was the last survivor of her immediate birth family.
She and her childhood sweetheart Arthur were raised in the "Old Fort" district of Savannah. They were married on February 25, 1943. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In Bobby's heart, her family always came first, anyone who knew her would definitely attest to this. Bobby has always been a very hard worker; since she was old enough to work she has continuously held employment. She retired after 30 years, with Hunt Wesson in Savannah, where she was fondly referred to as the woman who never ran out of energy.

During WWII, she was a true "Rosie the Riveter", attaching the nose section of the B-29 bombers that were built in Atlanta. Although the war years were tough, when she spoke of working at the bomber plant, you knew that it was one of her proudest moments.

After she and her husband retired, they enjoyed many good years of traveling, family functions, and watching all of their grandchildren in whatever sport or activity they were involved in. Bobby was a former member of Christ Church. She will be truly missed by all of those who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her only son, James Arthur Watson, Jr.

Bobby is survived by her loving and devoted husband, James Arthur Watson, Sr., who was with her through all the tough times, as well as the good times. He was always at her side, fulfilling his lifelong promise, "In sickness and in health".

She is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Andrews Ronnie, Bobbie Marmolejo Marty, and Kelly Gray Steve; nine grandchildren, Tommy, Michael and Kelly Andrews, James Watson, III and Wendy Shaeffer, Jason Marmolejo and Jessica Driggers, Bryan and Lisa Gray; eight great-grandchildren, Liz, T.J., Shelby, Taylor, Tyler, Reagan, Ryan and Christina.

If you speak a word believe it, if you believe a word live by it….She did!
Mom and Granny, we love you and will miss you. You will always be in our heart.

The family would like to thank Hospice Savannah for their assistance and especially thank Father Patrick O'Brien for his continuous kindness and support throughout her illness.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, 2010 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

Funeral Service: 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

My family and I are so sorry for your loss

- LPontbriand, savannah, GA

Dear Kelly, Bobby & Family, I am so very sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I wish there were words that could take the pain away; unfortunately, there are none. You were all so blessed to have a wonderful, loving mother and she will forever live within your hearts.....she will always be with you. I am so sorry I could not be there to hug and hold each of you. Just know I love you and you are in my prayers and thoughts......God Bless.

- Joyce Deal, Savannah, GA

I am very sorry for your loss and pray for your peace and comfort. It is funny how I ran into all of you girls last week. A million memories of all of you and our old neighbor hood have flooded my mind since. Those are the best memories and your mother was in so many of them. I know that all of you will miss her but please remember that she will never be far from you. When you call out to her she will let you know she hears. My mother lets me know. I can picture her and my Mom and all of the Hunt Wesson girls together and all in white just talking about their families. Watch for pennies, if you see one pick it up it is probably your Mom reminding you that we will be fine if 'In God We Trust'. I love you all
