Dear Uncle Howie, Aunt Joan and Beth. Although it's been many years since I've seen Dan, I always remember him as a good looking, bright-eyed little blonde boy playing in the backyard of my parent's house in Rockford. His untimely death has come as a shock. Reading the condolences in Dan's guest book painted just the picture I have always had of Danny...softspoken, kind and dutiful. Our hearts are breaking for you. There are no words. I do honestly believe that the mysteries of this life are explained when it's over. Our questions are answered and we are with our loved ones forever. I will contact Jack and family. Peace and love be with you....In great sadness, MaryAnne and Bill.

I have known Danny since I was 10 yrs. old. He used to work for my Grandparents at Great Oaks apts. Dan used to sit for my little brother and I. He was a great influence in my life. Dan would help me with my homework all the way through school, even when I didn't want to do it. When I didn't have homework, he would make up extra credit for me to do. Dan was one of the main reasons I joined the Rochester Fire Department. Danny was like my big brother and he would help me out with any problem that I had, whether it was big or small. Dan made to to help me solve it. Dan, I will miss you very deeply. Nobody will be able to fulfill what you meant to me. Sam

- Samuel Beckner, Rochester Hills, MT

Dearest Daniel, I will miss you so very much. I met you when you were 16 years old and you came to work for Pat & Red Hulburt, my parents, at Great Oaks Apartments. You got very close to John and I as well as our kids. You were like one of our own and we loved you very much. We went to your 21st Birthday party. What a milestone! John became involved with the fire dept. because of your involvement and dedication. Although we lost touch through the years, I always knew how you were and how you were doing because my sons kept me updated. We will miss your beautiful smile and winning personality always. Peace be yours. Susan and John Beckner

- Susan Beckner, Rochester Hills,, MI

Dan and family, I'm having a hard time saying goodbye, because you were so young and full of life. You were a little brother to Todd and I. Your smile and your great sense of humor always had us laughing. You could fix anything in the world and your commitment to the fire department was unprecedented. You were a loyal caringperson ,who always looked after my parents and their house when they went to Florida. We had a lot of good times living across the street from you and your parents and sister Beth. I know things started to unwind when your parents and family moved away.I don't think you took it well. However, when you saw my family ,the facade would come up and you were the same 'old Dan'. I'm sorry life got so difficult and spun away from you. You were loved by many people and our hearts all ache over you. May God bless you and keep you and may you finally find the peace you so richly deserve!!!! Our love to Beth, the kids and Joan and Howie,We're so sorry for your loss

- Steve Wells and Family, Birmingham,Michigan, MI

Howie, Joan and Beth, Julie and I are so sorry for your loss. Danny was my best friend growing up in Rochester and I suspect I spent as much time in your kitchen as I did in my own house. Beth, you were always the sister I never had and I am so thankful for the great times and memories that we all shared growing up together. Although Dan and I went our seperate ways in our later teens, we maintained a bond that was 'classic family'. When I last saw Dan, he was his same old self, smiling, asking about people and family in his unique, caring tone, talking about old times like the time we drove the Bolen's tractor into the garage door. It just always felt 'right' with Dan. When he became the Fire Chief in Rochester I was so proud of him and I knew he was so proud of what he had accomplished,I know that Dan had a strong faith and that he is in a better place now, but I will miss him, really miss him for a very long time.

- Todd Wells and Family, Birmingham, MI

Dan, I just want to thank you for the times we had when you hired me at great oaks. They were good times. Then you got the limo service and my mom and I drove for you, she loved doing that. When I returned from the military you helped me get back on the fire department, I can't thank you enough for that. You were also a great help to me when I lost my mom. You were always the type of person to help others before helping yourself. I will miss you Dan

- Ted Rhyndress, clarkston, MI

Joan and Howie, My heart aches for your loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts.

- Pamela J. Buskey, Knoxville, TN

Howie, Joan and Beth: We were devastated upon learning of Dan's untimely death. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you, as well as young Daniel Ryan Jacobson. It seems like only yesterday that 'Danny' was in our basement playing with Match-Box cars on a cardboard map that he and Todd had designed. He was always welcome at our house as a young boy and later as an adult. We will never forget when he invited us down to the fire station after he became Fire Chief for a tour of the trucks and other equipment. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his fire department. He would stop by our house from time to time, and we always looked forward to his next visit. We can still see him lying on your garage floor working on a car--and he would get it fixed. Such a loss is so sad, and we extend our deepest sympathies to all of you. We will miss him greatly.

- Wayne and Shirley Wells, Rochester, MI

Dan Jr., Howard, Joan & Beth We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. We have known Dan since his high school years. He was a friend of both our sons, Brian & Bob Jr. Dan was a very people friendly person, always ready to help when needed. Dan loved the Fire Dept and was a good Firefigher and Chief. He was devoted to the Dept and his firefighters. It was great when Dan Jr. visited the Fire Dept. Dan loved letting him drive the golf cart around the building and parking lot. We had a chance to meet you, Howard and Joan, when we met up with Dan and you in Savannah in spring, 2000. We all shopped on the River Front, had dinner, told stories and laughed alot. What a great time. Dan really looked forward to us coming to Savannah, he wanted us to meet his family. Dan was a good friend and will sadly be missed. Our love and prayers to all of you.

Dan was a friend and fellow Member of Rochester volenteer fire dept. We had many good times together on fire dept and he was a very nice guy who I respected for his service to the Rochester fire department. He was someone that would always help however he could. after i retired from the department in 1989 he continued to be a friend. My son played baseball for a team in Lake Orion and they had a tournament in Lake Orion and we ask the Lake Orion Fire dept. if they would help us by hosing down field between games to help to have a more successful tournament. they said they could not . so I ask Dan if we could use some hose and nozzles and as always he said take what you need. the games were a success. and I brought our players down and they helped me clean up and hang hose and got to see fire trucks up close.they thought that was real neat thanks again for once again coming to the rescue and being great guy and chief.

- Bobby Rupe, Lake Orion, MI

Dan and I had known each other for years but truly got to know each other in 1998 when he became the Fire Chief for the City of Rochester Michigan. I always knew him to be polite, with gracious manners. He was kind hearted, generous to a fault and had true empathy and sympathy for others. He was loyal in his relationships and devoted to service in his community. He had a great laugh and his eyes would twinkle when he allowed himself that indulgence. He was respectful and soft spoken with women and children as I observed him publicly and there was a sense of humbleness and humility about him that endeared him to many of us. My family and I shared many special moments with Daniel, new houses, relationships, the passing of old lifestyles and relationships. A new building project or home improvement, a new business. Dan was industrious and always had a job going on the sidelines. The pride he took in his son Daniel and his accomplishments througout his growing up were evident and a joy to see. He held his son in great regard and the love he had for him was evident. My sister and I commented to him more than once on the great job that Dan and his son's Mother had both done in raising Daniel Jr. to be the polite, bright and well spoken young man we watched grow up. Any encounter we had with Daniel Jr. was a delight. Dan Senior loved a good game of golf, and partnering with his Father to win a tournament gave him a special boost. He always came back from a vacation golfing with his dad refreshed. He spoke respectfully and lovingly of both of his parents and his sister and enjoyed his time spent with family. He was eagerly anticipating a renewal of life with and near this family when his untimely death occured. I knew Dan to be a man of courage and dignity who could share a confidence and keep a confidence. I count him as a true friend. I know that the quality of life in my community and that of my family's was enriched greatly by our frienship and professional associatons with Daniel H. Jacobson.
