Olevia Zipperer Ross
Olevia Zipperer Ross, 94, of Savannah passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Egypt, Georgia, May 9, 1916 to Anna Blanton Zipperer and Ellis Leander Zipperer and was baptized in the Turkey Branch Baptist Church. Olevia moved to Savannah in 1924 where she joined First Baptist Church of Savannah. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1933 and Richard's Business School. She was employed as a cashier-bookkeeper for Motor Contract Finance Company. She later worked in civil service at the Charleston Naval Base and the Savannah Shipyard in the Finance Department. She continued her civil service work on Guam and in Frankfort, Germany where she met and married Lt.Col. Robert C. Ross. Olevia and Bob enjoyed retirement and golf in Umitilla and Englewood, Florida. Upon her husband's death, Olevia returned to Savannah and joined The Windsor Forest Baptist Church. Olevia was active in church, Training Union, and G.A.'s all of her life and taught Sunday School for many years.
Never having children, she enjoyed her six nephews, one niece and their children.
Olevia was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Montez Rogers J. Hudson Rogers, brother and sister-in-law, Retherford E. Zipperer Nita S. Zipperer her parents, and husband.
She is survived by a sister, Nellie Z. Jones Billy S. Jones.
There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel. The burial will be at Turkey Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
