Mabel Grainger Parks

Mabel Jordan Grainger Parks, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of Savannah, Georgia, went peacefully to rest with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, June 24, 2010. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Tabor City, North Carolina, September 17, 1921, to the late Kenny and Mary Harrelson Jordan, Mabel was one of four children. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Mace Jordan, and sister, Ruth Jordan Miller, and is survived by her loving brother, Kenneth Harold Jordan.

Mabel spent most of her youth in Tabor City, North Carolina, and upon graduation from high school, Mabel attended Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina. Mabel was married to the late Levi S. Grainger, and worked for many years with the family tobacco farm and family automotive business in Tabor City, before moving to Savannah.

After moving to Savannah, Mabel spent many years working with Grainger Auto Parts, before retirement. She was later married to the late Clifford Parks. Mabel lived an active life surrounded by her friends and family and enjoyed being social in her community.

As an active member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church, Mabel was devoted to her church community through her Sunday School Class and Sunshiners' Group. She spent time reading scripture daily and truly
exemplified her faith in her every day life. Mabel had an unconditional love for others and a spirit that will live on in the lives of those she touched.

Mabel is survived by her sons, Kenneth Carson Grainger and his wife, Terry; William Levi Grainger and his wife, Barbara; Joel Weldon Grainger and his wife, Patsy; and Mark Alan Grainger and his wife, Bendy. She is survived by her eleven grandchildren, Kenneth Carson Grainger Jr. and wife, Pamela; Ansley Grainger; Latisha Exley Grainger McDonough; Kellie Grainger Clark and husband, Jay; LeAnne Grainger Thomas and husband, Spencer; Missy Grainger Baker and husband, Jesse; Damon Grainger; Patrick Grainger; Jordan Grainger; Sam Grainger; Luke Grainger; and Franc Exley. Mabel is also survived by her eleven great-grandchildren, Grainger and Ben Exley; Grace and Carson Grainger; Chase, Harrison and Hayden Clark; Garris, Grant and Grey Thomas; and Andrew Baker.

The family would also like to express gratitude to Anne and David Usher and Mrs. Winnie Huncke Ennis for years of friendship and devotion.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, June 26, at Windsor Forest Baptist Church, 12521 White Bluff Road, Savannah, Georgia. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 a.m. Private burial to follow.
