Carlton E. Conaway
August 31, 1947 - August 09, 2010
Carlton Earl "Carl" Conaway, 62, passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 at Candler Hospital with his family by his side. He was a native and lifelong resident of Savannah and Tybee Island. Carl was retired after 21 years of service from the Georgia Ports Authority Police Department. He was a member of the American Legion Post #154, and was a founding member of the Tybee Memorial Committee. Carl served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Frankie McBride Conaway, of Tybee Island, his mother, Virginia Fields, of Savannah, his father, Marion Conaway, of Reidsville, daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Mike Leach, of Richmond Hill, Denise and Steve Talick, of Elizabeth City, NC, and son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Christine Conaway, of Savannah. Also surviving are his step-children and their spouses, David and Leisa Forman, of Duluth, and Tracy Forman and David Taft, of Savannah, and his eight adored grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at the American Legion on Tybee Island, on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
A private family graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Taylor and the staff at Summit Cancer Care, Dr. Gifford Lorenz and his staff, and the staff of 4 north, Oncology at Candler Hospital.
