Ellen Kennedy Mahany
January 24, 1927 - August 12, 2010
Ellen Lee Kennedy Mahany, 83, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Hospice Savannah. She was a lifelong resident of Savannah and Tybee Island and was a 1945 graduate of St. Vincent's Academy. She was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tybee Island and a member Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Ed" Mahany, Sr., brothers, John F. Kennedy, and Raymond Joseph Kennedy, and grandson, Henry C. Smith, IV.
Ellen retired from Chatham County Government after many years of service as Chief Assistant Tax Commissioner.
Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Edward Mahany, Jr., daughter-in-law, Susan B. Mahany, daughter, M. Joan Mahany Smith, son-in-law, H. Cardwell Smith, III, grandsons, Thomas E. "Trey" Mahany, III, John Thomas Mahany, and Burnam C. Smith, granddaughter, Nora Mahany, four great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews, and dear friend Carol Guetherman.
Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2010 with a Vigil Service at 4:00 p.m., at the Islands Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with The Reverend Msgr. P. James Costigan, officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
