Arlene Zipperer
September 11, 1953 - August 12, 2010
Tybee Island - Arlene Zipperer, 56, died August 12, 2010 at the home of her sister on Tybee Island after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was born in Savannah, daughter of the late Carlin Solomon Zipperer and Cleo Anne Douglas Zipperer. She was a 1971 graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School and attended Armstrong State College. She was a bookkeeper for Calvin H. Zipperer, her late uncle, for many years. She also cherished her position at Savannah State University, where she assisted students in navigating their collegiate careers. She was an avid Bulldog fan and often reminisced about the Georgia-Florida games at the Gator Bowl with her dear friends. Arlene was a member of the First Baptist Church of the Islands, formerly Wilmington Island Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Jason Cage Zipperer of Boothbay Harbor, ME; Joshua Caleb Zipperer and his wife, Deborah of San Francisco, CA; sisters, Frances Z. Davenport and her husband, Locke of Tybee Island; Carol Z. Darsey and her husband, Will of Colonels Island, GA; grandson, Jonah Cage Zipperer of Boothbay Harbor, ME; sister-in-law, Gwin Hall of Pt. Wentworth; aunt, Elsie Hall of Pt. Wentworth; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
The graveside funeral service will be private.
