Joanne

Joanne "Jo" Baldwin, 83, passed away of a longstanding illness on August 12, 2010 in her home at The Marshes on Skidaway Island in Savannah, GA. She will be dearly missed by her children, David Baldwin, Jr. of Northville, MI, Sandra Petersen of Edina, MN and Susan Baldwin of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Courtney and Katie Petersen; daughter-in-law, Barbara Burnham and son-in-law, James Petersen. Jo also will be greatly missed by her loving and faithful cat, Ginger Spice, who will be relocating to Chicago.

Joanne's loving husband, David Baldwin, III preceded her in death as well as her parents, Ken and Aleta Kitchen.

Family and dear friends will remember Jo for her quick wit and good company. She was fun to be around and her sense of humor never diminished throughout her illness. She was a fighter until the very end, never giving up hope that she would walk and cook again. She enjoyed passing the days visiting with her family and friends; laughing with her special caregivers; and watching the golf channel and the food channel with Ginger by her side. She loved to socialize with her wonderful friends, play bridge and for a long time she was even known as a fairly decent golfer. She was a wonderful cook and entertainer and her family covets her special recipes, many passed on through her mother.

Joanne graduated from the University of Michigan and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Prior to moving to the Marshes in 2005, Jo and Dave owned a home in The Landings. For many years they spent summers in Edina, Minnesota and then Eden Prairie. They were active members of Interlachen Country Club. They were also members in Mt. Olivet Church in Minneapolis and Skidaway Island United Methodist Church in Savannah.

Jo's family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Marshes for their kindness and excellent care and Odyssey Healthcare for their superior care and compassion. We thank her many friends for their kindness and steady stream of goodies, cards and flowers over the past many months.

A memorial service will be held at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow immediately after at The Marshes.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, P.O.
