Celebrating the life of
John Paul Davis
December 02, 1920 - August 25, 2010
John Paul Davis - 12/2/1920 - 08/25/2010
Paul was a native of Ohio, living in Sarahsville, Marietta, and Zanesville. He was a graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, with a degree in civil engineering, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He was employed by and retired from PPG Industries, where he held various positions for 37 years. He was transferred to Pittsburgh, PA, in 1964 as chief engineer for a PPG Industries foreign venture in Sierra Leone, Africa.
Paul joined the Army Air Corps and served for 4 years during World War II with the Air Transport Command as Engineering Officer and Supply Base Officer, assigned to Ladd Air Force Base, Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska, for 2 years. After his honorable discharge with the rank of Major, he joined the Ohio Air National Guard as Commander of a National Guard Squadron. After his retirement from PPG in 1983, he and his wife, Martha, moved to Savannah, GA. She was his soul mate and together they travelled the world, enjoyed golf, dancing, friends, and family.
Paul and Martha were members of The First Presbyterian Church in Savannah, and after Martha's death, he became the official Sunday greeter, as well as President of the Prime Timers group at the church.
Survivors include his son, Frank Davis and daughter-in-law, Anne, of Pittsburgh; daughter, Paula MacKay and son-in-law, John, of Sarasota, FL. Grandchildren include Eric Davis of Boulder, CO, Carolyn Trobaugh of Pittsburgh, PA, Heather Martin of Venice, FL, and Andrew MacKay of Pasadena, CA. Paul also has 3 great grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Hospice House, Savannah, for their considerate care, and to Paul's niece, Mary Lou, for her dedication and devotion.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Remembrances may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Washington Ave, Savannah, GA.
We were saddened to learn, just recently, of Paul's passing. He was a dear friend & coworker from days in Zanesville, to Sierra Leone and Pittsburgh. A giant of a man, was Paul, not only in staure but in his concern for others. His warm, accepting personalty made one comfortable in his presence. Carole's reaction to Paul was 'When Paul Davis greets or talks to you, he makes one feel like you are a very important person.' Our condolemces go out to Frank, Anne, Paula & John and their families.

For the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of driving John to church one or two Sundays a month. We discussed family, current events, and places we had traveled - but mostly family. He was so proud of his son, Frank and daughter, Paula. My husband and I enjoyed his company for meals at our home on a couple of occasions. I never had an opportunity to meet John's late wife, Martha, but I know thoughts of her were never very far from his heart. He missed her desperately and I like to think they are now happily reunited.
