Robert Gallatan Drane

Hiawassee, GA - Robert Bob G. Drane passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 after a long illness. Born on April 23, 1927 in St. Petersburg, FL, he grew up in Savannah and lived in Atlanta and Hiawassee. He was the son of the late Louis and Clifford Jane Drane and had many fond memories of growing up on Isle of Hope.

He was preceded in death by brothers Louis and Thomas Drane and his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Drane Dasher.

He served in the Merchant Marines and the Army Medical Core during World War II and was called as a member of the Army Reserves during the Korean War. Following the war he attended the University of Georgia until he started with Park Davis as Pharmaceutical Sales Representative. During the late 60's, he became a general contractor. He enjoyed a long career in real estate development and was a licensed broker in Georgia and South Carolina.

He cherished his family who remained by his side throughout his illness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Lea Noblet Drane; daughter Susan, her husband Todd Hutto and four grandchildren Jefferson and Elizabeth Gates and Nicole and Christian Hutto of Atlanta; daughter Diane Noble and his grandson John Robert of Alpharetta, and son Robert, his wife Sherri and his granddaughter Miranda of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Drane of Jacksonville, FL and many brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews that loved their "Uncle Bob".

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah with a memorial reception immediately following at Isle of Hope Baptist Church.

Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to Atlanta VAMC – Nephrology, Voluntary Services 135, 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033.
