Decatur Bostick Campbell, Jr.

Decatur Bostick Campbell, Jr., born August 7, 1920 in Savannah, Georgia, died October 16, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. Preceded in death by his parents, Decatur Bostick Campbell and Hallie Dawson Campbell, and sister, Hallie Boone. Raised in Savannah, Georgia. Graduate, Savannah High School, 1937. Received Associate of Arts, Armstrong Junior College, Savannah, 1939, and B.A., Emory University, 1942. Served as a Photographic Officer and Captain; U.S. Army Air Corps, Pacific theater, 1943-1946. Received Masters of Chemistry, Emory University, 1947. He joined Tennessee Eastman Co. in January, 1948 and held various chemical marketing positions with Tennessee Eastman and Eastman Chemical Products, Inc., divisions of Eastman Kodak Company, in Kingsport, TN, Cleveland, Chicago and Zug, Switzerland. He retired in 1985 as Chairman of Eastman Chemical Products, Inc., Eastman Chemical International, Ltd. and Eastman Chemical International Co. "Deke", as he was known to his friends and colleagues, was past Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Switzerland, member Emeritus of the American Chemical Society, President of the North Central Section of the American Oil Chemists Society. Past President, the Rotary Club, Kingsport; member, the Rotary Club, Savannah. He was a member of Ridgefields Country Club in Kingsport and The Landings Club at Skidaway Island in Savannah. An active member of every church he attended, he served as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport and Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church in Savannah. His lifelong love for photography reached its zenith in documenting the lives of his five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice Brockington Campbell; sister, Catherine Crook, Marco Island, FL; son, Alan Stuart Campbell Becky, Nashville; daughter, Carol Campbell Young Bob, Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Amy Pearson Matt, Kansas City, KS; David Young Becky, Loveland, CO, Lauren Hancock Matt, New York City; Eric Young, Denver, CO; Molly Campbell, Nashville; and great-grandson, Campbell Paul Pearson. A private Graveside Service was held at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, Reverend Eric Beene officiating.
