Dr. Patwardhan saved my sister Barbara Jones' life in 1994, when he diagnosed her breast cancer after two mammogram screenings failed to do so. They met during her tenure as regional director of the American Cancer Society, while he was on the Board of Directors. He was agressive in fighting for Barbara, first in the operating room and second, against the insurance bureacracy which tried to deny her coverage for post-surgical hospitalization. Dr. Patwardhan was successful on both fronts.He would operate on her again a few years later when she had a scare. My sister always said that of all the good things to come from having cancer, Dr. Patwardhan was the best, as if God sent her an angel.
