Celebrating the life of
David Edwin Bormes

David E. Bormes
May 11, 1940 – November 2010
My Captain
You can captain a boat,
You can captain a plane
And you are a dead eyed dick
In the hunting game.
You can build a house
Without even a plan.
And you are every woman's dream
Of a handy-man.
You can fish like a pro
And with the right crew,
Bring in the catch
Tuna, Marlin, and Wahoo.
You can weave a tale
Most will never forget;
But they will believe it
And not regret.
You're an entrepreneur
Extraordinaire
With that midas touch
And some to spare.
You have a generous soul
I can't deny.
You're my best friend
On whom I can always rely.
You're that silver tongued devil.
A pirate at heart,
Who boarded, captured
And captained my heart!
-Barbara Bormes
David Bormes, a loving husband, father, and friend, passed away Thursday morning, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Nafis Bormes; two daughters, Susan Bormes, of Hardeeville, S.C., and Teresa Akins Liam, of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Catherine, Olivia, and Michael; a sister, Mary B. Focht, of Minneapolis, a sister-in-law, Patti Entrekin Bobby, of Savannah; one niece, Christine Apps Gibson, of Savannah; and his close companions, Too, Boo, Ashes, and Katie.
Dave was born and raised in Minnesota and joined the Marines in 1957. He served until 1960. When his active duty was complete, Dave found himself in Savannah. He worked at several different vocations, but can most accurately be described, in his professional life, as a computer guru. In his spare time, Dave was a true outdoorsman and could most often be found in the water, in the air, or designing and building his dreams in a woodshop on his plantation. As an avid sport fisherman, Dave had big fish stories – but his were true, once catching an 800lb Tuna. He was also an avid pilot and often competed in air races across the country. He was a member of the Jasper County Aeronautics Commission, American Bonanza Society, NRA, the Savannah Yacht Club, the Estill Historical Society, and was a lifetime member of the Palmetto Aviation Society.
Arrangements for the memorial service are incomplete at this time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

Nouna', I can not even begin to express how deeply saddened and shocked to hear Uncle Dave passed away and I certainly can't imagine the void you feel. He was a wonderful, interesting, animated, kind and beautiful man and I'm blessed to have had him as my Godfather. Even though we were not in constant contact, my love has and will always remain strong. I love you so and please keep the knowledge that God is with you and really enjoying one or many of Uncle Dave's stories!!

Barbara, when I rode up to your and Daves's house that day about thirty years ago I did not realize that I was meeting two of the best friends a man could ever have. Dave touched my heart in so many ways and he was the best and most helpful friend anyone could ever wish to have. He stuck by me through thick and thin and without him sometimes I think I would not have gotten through some of my misfortunes. He always adivsed me and inspired me with his love of our friendship. I will always look at some of the handiwork in my home that he did and that leaves me a part of him. I loved him in life like a brother and I'll love him forever and he will always be in my memories. Also I want you to know that I will always be here for you and I love you. Forever your friend, Joe

Barbara, John and I were saddened and shocked to hear of your loss. I know there is a giant void in your heart as you grieve the loss of Dave. What a wonderful man he was. Hold fast to your fond memories and we pray that God will give you strength in the coming days. John will cherish his many fond memories of all the bird hunts that he shared with Dave over the years. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you, In heartfelt sympathy, Cindy and John Howard
- Cindy Howard, Savannah, GA
Dave was truly all you said but the big thing about his character was the 'animation' in his eyes when he was talking about something. He was aways excited about any subject he knew about and that covered a lot of ground. We loved him. He was a dear person to all he met.

Barbara and family my prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.
