John Michael Shanahan, Jr.

Savannah - John Michael Shanahan Jr., 62, died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on December 21, 2010. He was born March 11, 1948 in Baraga, Michigan. He was a graduate of Baraga High School and Savannah Technical College. Mr. Shanahan was longtime employee of the Georgia Ports Authority where he served as a Safety Manager and a Finance Specialist. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine Shanahan.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine Beytagh Shanahan; two sons, Daniel Shanahan and his wife, Kendra; Brian Shanahan; his brother, Timothy Shanahan and sister, Patty Farley.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 23, 2010 from 5.00 p.m. until 7.00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, with a Vigil Service at 6.00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10.00 a.m., Friday, December 24, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church with the Reverend Mark Ross, Celebrant.

Burial will be private.

Pallbearers will be, John Patrick Beytagh, Jr., Thomas Conner Beytagh, William Spencer Stegin III, Matthew Thomas Stegin, Logan Kehoe Beytagh, Christopher Ryan Kicklighter, Michael Aloysius Foran, Warren Mason Heller II, Michael Joseph Cusatis, and Jonathan Charles Buttimer. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jamers Robert Harris III, Chancelor Allen Harris, William Joseph Foran II, Thomas McKay Johnson, and William Kehoe Johnson.

Remembrances may be sent to the St. James Early Learning Center, 8412 Whitefield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406.
