Clarice Lucille von der Heyde Epting
February 27, 1929 - December 23, 2010
Clarice Lucille von der Heyde Epting, of Wilmington Island, died on December 23, 2010 at the age of 81. She was born on February 27, 1929 in Jacksonville, Florida to Henry August Fritz von der Heyde and Helen Kodatt von der Heyde. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and an associate member of The Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah.
She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville in 1947. She then attended Newberry College in Newberry, SC and graduated cum laude in 1951. While there, she met Eugene L. Epting Jr. and they were married on June 17, 1951. She was an educator for many years, working as a teacher and guidance counselor in the public school systems in Georgia and Tennessee. After retiring, she was a private tutor with Royce Learning Center.
Clarice is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Col. Henry "Hank" von der Heyde of Jacksonville. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rev. Eugene L. Epting Jr.; three children, Eugene L. Epting III of Florence, SC, Caroline Epting Kemerling of Bluffton, SC, and Helen Lee Epting of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren, Sarah Kemerling Perlman Andy of Lorton, VA, Holly Epting Hardee Scott of Florence, SC, and Megan Craven Epting of Florence, SC; and one great-grandchild, Katherine Finley Hardee.
The visitation will be held at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel on Monday, December 27th from 5 to 8 PM. The funeral will be held at The Lutheran Church of the Ascension on Tuesday, December 28th at 11 AM.
