Eustace Clifford Carter, Sr.

Eustace Clifton Carter, Sr., 97, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Brunswick, Georgia but lived most of his life in Savannah. During WWII, he was a ship builder with Southeastern Shipyard where he worked on the first Liberty Ship. He later retired as a Master Machinist with Motor Supply Company. He was a Founding Planner and Charter Member of White Bluff United Methodist Church and Past Master 1956 of Zerubbabel Lodge #15 F. & A.M. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His parents, Ezra and Fannie Carter and three sisters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Georgia Roberts Carter of Savannah; two daughters, Judy C. Nelson Carl of Pooler, Randee C. Powell Dick of Savannah; son, E. Cliff Carter, Jr. Jonnette of Jackson, TN; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors with Rev. John Haney of White Bluff United Methodist Church officiating. Serving as Pallbearers will be Bryan Carter, Jason McCallister, Bruce Nelson, Manson Nelson, Cameron Watson and Todd Carroll.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be made in Mr. Carter's memory to White Bluff United Methodist Church, 11911 White Bluff Rd., Savannah, GA 31419 or Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
