Byron Harms Stauffer

Byron Harms Stauffer, 71, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in Savannah.

Mr. Stauffer was born in Savannah, GA on August 12, 1939, the son of the late Byron Reginald and Mildred Harms Stauffer. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged after six years of dedicated service. Following his military tenure he owned the Honda of Savannah store until 1978. For many years following he worked in the yachting industry with his late wife, Maxine Stauffer. Together, they started "Formula Cars East", traveling the SCCA racing circuit and helping other drivers to many wins and trophies.

Mr. Stauffer was preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years, Anne Maxine Butler Stauffer. He is survived by his daughter, Zena Whittinghill and husband Lee of Salisbury, IN; son, Byron John Stauffer and wife Davina of Hollywood, FL; grandchildren, Byron James Stauffer and wife Katrina of New York, Erin W. Lucas of Kentucky, Kyle W. Whittinghill and Deanna R. Whittinghill, both of Indiana; step-grandson, Austin Cawisch of Florida and great-granddaughter, Emma R. Lucas of Kentucky. He is also survived by his beloved poodles, Fuzz, Hoover and Wag.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow the memorial service at Bonaventure Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

I new byron and his family as a child and still have those memorys when they lived in st.augustine fl.byron worked at the yacht pier where there boat the damnitall shared a slip with my dads boat,the rubber duck. Drag racing, speed boats, Halloween pranks and some things we don't talk about. The time was fast and furious! Thanks for the memories.
