Herman H. Kleinsteuber

Herman Heiss Kleinsteuber, 86, died January 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Savannah, son of the late Max E. and Emma Heiss Kleinsteuber. He was a graduate of Savannah High School. After high school, Mr. Kleinsteuber mastered the art of cutting stone and worked for his father the founder of Cut Art Stone Company. He eventually became owner and president where he remained until his retirement when the business was sold. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension. He was a founding member of the German Heritage Society, past president of the German Friendly Society where the Herman H. Kleinsteuber Life Time Achievement Award was named in his honor, naming him the first recipient. He served on the Board of Directors for Newberry College and the Southern Bank, former member of the Chatham Club and the Savannah Yacht Club and a member of Solomon's Lodge No. 1 F.&A.M. He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and a half brother.

Surviving are his children, Page K. Parks and her husband, Gary of Savannah; Carl G. Kleinsteuber and his wife, Kathy of Savannah; Fran K. Pobletts and her husband, Alan of Sykesville, MD; sister, Anne Leon of Savannah; grandchildren, Katie Parks, Andy and Kaitlin Kleinsteuber, Anna and Wynn Pobletts, numerous nieces and nephews.

Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter J. Hartmann and Pastor John Ohsiek officiating. A reception will immediately follow in Hoffner Hall to celebrate his life.

Burial: Private.

I met Herman when I went to visit sister Betty. she was the oldest nurse in Savannah and had been an active officer of the GNA group. Herman was at the Nuring Home feeding Betty. What a wonderful man he was. I kept up with him after Betty's death. I know you will miss him and I send you my good wishes and recognition of a good.man
