Daniel Joseph O'Connor, Jr.
May 31, 1927 - February 13, 2011
Daniel "Doc" O'Connor died peacefully at his home on Tybee. He was born May 31, 1927 to Daniel Sr. and Magdalena Ambrose O'Connor. He was pre-deceased by his daughters, Mary Christina O'Connor Mock and Ellen O'Connor Ripley and his brother Ambrose O'Connor.
Doc attended Marist and Cathedral schools and graduated from Savannah High and Walton School of Commerce in Chicago. Doc served briefly in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He passed his CPA exam on his first attempt and worked in public accounting with Spillane, Rhoads, LeBey and Cann, CPA's. He retired from Great Dane Trailers as Vice President in 1991 after 23 years of service.
Doc was a most enthusiastic golfer and a member of the Savannah Golf Club for 40 years. He was a member of the Hibernian Society of Savannah for 51 years and served as president in 1997.
Mr. O'Connor is survived by his wife of 59 years, Genevieve Pinckney O'Connor and his sister, Jane O'Connor Holland; daughter, Maureen Simmons Richard, sons, Daniel, III Jodie, Patrick Pam, Michael Dee all of Savannah and Terrence Donna of Cumming, Ga and 16 grandchildren: Caroline, Allison Hal , Joshua Liz, Michael, Katie, Patrick, Joseph, Kevin, Daniel, Michael Jr, Lizzie, Andrew, Christopher, Emily, Colin and Jack; Ryan Torey and Samantha Connelly; Christopher and Kason Fogarty. Two great grandchildren: Rhett and Marlee.
Mr. O'Connor has lived at Tybee since 1978 and was a daily communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church and received the Bishop Gartland award for his service.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. , Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Christian Wake Service with Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Burial: Pinckney Colony Family Cemetery, Bluffton, South Carolina at 12:30 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be all of the Grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be The Hibernian Society of Savannah.
