- Savannah - Elese Smith Johnson, 91, died March 21, 2011 at Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Savannah on June 17, 1919 and lived in Savannah most of her life. She was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Johnson worked in the lumber business for many years, having worked for Bright Brooks Lumber Company and Savannah Lumber and Supply Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ernie Tex Johnson; her parents, Joseph Gwinette and Etta Fleming Smith; brothers, Gwinette, Roy, Grady, Armon and Bill Smith; sisters, Ethel Freeman and Edith Etheridge.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Johnson of Savannah, grandson, Todd Johnson Linda of Gainesville, FL; granddaughter, Daile Stark Dan of Lilburn, GA; great granddaughters, Erika Johnson and Daniela Stark; sisters-in-law, Mary Smith of Pooler, GA; and Bernice Dacey and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011 in Bonaventure Cemetery.
