David Allen McGrath, 28, died Thursday, April 7, 2011.
David was born in Savannah, GA on July 19, 1982. He was a 2000 graduate of H.V. Jenkins High School and was active in R.O.T.C. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Troop 24 under the leadership of Bob English. During his tenure as a Boy Scout, David earned many awards, notably earning the title of Eagle Scout. He had worked in the trucking industry for the last nine years.
David is survived by his parents, Valerie and Alvin McGrath, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Pat and Billy Kerley of Savannah; paternal grandparents, Sharon and Alvin McGrath of Boise, ID; brothers, Alvin McGrath, III of Savannah and Joseph McGrath and wife Caroline of Charleston, SC; sister, Katie McGrath of Savannah; girlfriend, Guerin Brown and her children, Tabbytha and Abbygail Brown, all of Brunswick, GA and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church with burial following at the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Following the burial a reception will be held at St. James Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Boy Scouts of America, 11900 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31419.
