Murem, Karl And families,Your mother, my next door neighbor, was an extraordinary woman. She will be remembered as an outstanding pillar of the community, friend and mentor. She gave of herself to all she came in contact with and with whatever she undertook. She loved her children to the NTH degree and was so very proud of their achievements. Along with teaching me the love of gardening, she also shared the best thing she ever bought from tupperware!! The vegetable steamer. As we chatted over the hedge........ I am very proud to have had the privilege of knowing your mom and having her for a friend .With fond memories.Bunnie

Emily, Eric, Murem, and Tom - I am so sorry to hear of Muriel's passing. She was an extraordinary woman - and a one-of-a-kind grandmother! To have a granddaughter like Emily - well, that is a feat! Muriel's strength, compassion, and zest for life live on. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Much love, Lauren

As a trustee of the Clifton Arts Center, I had a chance to work with Muriel on various projects. She will be remembered as a fine and caring person. Her love and appreciation for the arts center were reflected in her actions with the people she worked with and the visitors that she interacted with in her role as a volunteer. A lovely woman.

I am truly blessed and so very lucky to have known Muriel. From the wonderful inspiring stories that she told me to always taking the time to say hello or just bring a newspaper article over to me and tell me all about it. A special lady who was so proud of her family roots. Always seeing the good in everyone and everything around her. Muriels true love for life was what she was all about. Her memory will always be cherished. Every chapter of Muriel has a special meaning.I will never forget her.

I am sorry for the loss of your sweet mother. She was a fine lady who assisted and helped many Deaf people in Clifton, NJ. Many times I observed her lovingly communicate and make sure that their words were made known and understood by the Clifton community. She is missed by all who have met and known her for her generous time, dedication and commitment to the Deaf population.

Is there anyone who exemplified the words 'Greatest Generation' than Muriel Sakas? Was there ever a person who was a better Christian? She is an example of what a person COULD be. Her sense of honor, character and giving to relatives AND strangers made her unique. She lived a life that had value because she lived her values. Her ability to tap dance and grow roses puts her WAY over the top! YAY MURIEL! Life well lived. Love, Cathy

We were so saddened to read of Mrs. Sakas's passing in our morning paper. She was such a remarkable woman, in so many ways. Her weekly visits to School 14 were joyous; the children and adults looked forward to them. Mrs. Sakas always had a wonderful story to tell, often about her beloved father, Olympic dreams, many community activities or her children and grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. We felt we knew each of you, as she kept us up to date on your many exciting adventures. We loved when she would bring one of you to visit. She was so wonderful with the children she came to visit here at School 14. She so loved our weekly game of Uno! She often remembered us with a special book or treat. There was always a chocolate lollipop for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and other occassions. She always reminded me that they were 'from Genevieve's...you know they are the best'. She will forever remain in our hearts. With sincere sympathy, Kim Puzzo

I am so sorry to read of Muriel's passing. I have known her for years since she would come to the Clifton Health Department to to utilize our services. I remember her stories of being born to deaf parents and reading to the children of School 14. Also, her Olympic aspirations that would not happen due to WWII. I was fortunate to work with her on the Senior Advisory Committee and appreciated her input. On behalf of the committee, I send heartfelt condolences to Muriel's family. Jane Scarfo, Chairperson

My grandmother had the spirit of an angel and was a gem of a woman. If you never had the chance to meet her, there are no amont of words that could describe how amazing she was to her family, friends and acquaintances.

- Eric Sharpe, Savannah, GA

Words can not express how sad and sorry I am to hear about Muriel passing away. I moved into my house in Clifton across the street from Muriel when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I remember the first time I ever talked to her. I had fell off my bike out front her house and she came to see if I was ok. That was the day a friendship began to grow. I used to walk over to her house when ever I saw her outside just to talk to her. She always had a nice story to tell. From talking about when she was in the Olympics, or her wonderful loving family, or how she met her husband. I leard a lot from her about life and experiences and also learned a lot about gardening. She was always doing something out in her gardens. She was definitely a remarkable woman and I think she made everyones life that she met better in some way. She was full of life and always had a smile on her face. She was very involved in many different things in Clifton's community. I remember I used to wish she was my grandmother, and in many ways she was like a grandmother to me. Always there for me no matter what. I lost my grandmother when I was only 7yrs old and when I met Muriel she filled that empty place in my heart. I would give anything right now just to see her smile, or hear one more story. Muriel, you were a great friend and person and you were very loved. I hope you are now with the angels up above. Words can not express how sad I am right now, but the memories I have will help me somehow. From shoveling your snow, cutting your grass and halloween too, I still have every shiny half dollar I ever got from you. Thank you for everything and just being there, You always knew how to show you care. Until that day comes that we meet again, I will hold on to the great memories that will never end....
