Celebrating the life of

Myrna G. Wood

Passed away on March 30, 2019

Myrna G. Wood

Myrna Loy Googe Wood, 78, passed away at her home on March 30, 2019 following a brief illness. Born on April 19, 1940, she was a life-long resident of Savannah, Ga.

She is survived by one son, John David Wood, his wife, Robyn, and three grandchildren, Margaret Wood, Aaron Wood and Avery Wood, also of Savannah, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Herald Dean Wood, her daughter, Cherri Ann Wood, and her parents, John Henry and Wilma Holland Googe.   Myrna is also survived by three siblings, J. Hilton Googe (Maryann), and Glenn E. Googe (Pat) all of Charleston, SC and her sister, Elaine G. Pierce, of Savannah Ga. Many nieces and nephews also mourn the loss of this wonderful Christian lady, as well as extended family members across Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama and elsewhere.

Myrna Loy was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where Herald served for many years as a Deacon and where they raised their family. She was a graduate of Savannah High School in 1958, and was married in 1961 to Herald. Myrna was known by many people as someone with a “servant’s heart” and she lived her life in service to the needs of others, caring for her daughter for 33 years, and her parents in their years of infirmity and need. Following the deaths of close family members, she showed the gift of hospitality by hosting WMU, Sunday School Class meetings and youth events at her home. And she offered the service of transportation to many at her church who needed rides to Doctor offices or to church functions. She was a dear friend to many. The most important thing in her life was her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her sweet, sweet spirit will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. Myrna lived out her life in service to Christ and may we, who are left behind, aspire to be as faithful.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18.

The Burial will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park on Wheaton Street.

Remembrances may be made to the Missions Ministry Team at Southside Baptist Church, 5502 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31406.

My condolences to the family death is never an easy thing to bear our God Jehovah has promised mankind a resurrection so we can see our love ones again, the Bible holds out that promise. There is one thing that Jehovah God can’t do ,do u know what that is ? The answer is he can’t lie, so we can believe anything he says. Again I am sorry for your loss. Please read John 5:28,29

I only knew Mrs. Wood in passing, as neighbors. When I moved into the neighborhood three years ago, she was the first to welcome me. She was incredibly kind and I am fortunate to have had the chance to know her, however briefly. I send my love and condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Myrna’s family. She was a sweet, loving example of Christ. I cherish her friendship and although I mourn her passing, I rejoice in the fact that she is now well, and pain free, and with our Lord Jesus and her family that preceded her. I know I will see her again and I’m grateful she was my friend and sister in Christ. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
